Father’s Day for the Grill Master:
Buying him a new grill or new cooking utensils will surely make Dad’s day. If you’re taking control of the cooking for his big day, remember that grilling a juicy steak means dealing with flames and hot surfaces. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends inspecting the grill and gas hoses before you get started. Remember to keep at least a 3-foot radius of space around the grill to avoid injuries. Wear protective clothing and sneakers to keep hot embers away from exposed skin. Make sure your grill is set up at least 10 feet away from your home, walls, deck railings and eaves when in use. Never leave the grill unattended! Have a jug of water nearby to extinguish any wayward flames, and a fully stocked first aid kit ready for any injury. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has a handy grilling safety tip sheet you can download for safekeeping.
Father’s Day for the Outdoorsman:
Outdoor activities are a great gift idea because they can be fun and are inexpensive! Spending time outside means that you need to be aware of the weather. Always be vigilant about lightning, heat, and where the nearest shelter is once you arrive at your destination. Find a local park to take Dad to. If you’re headed to the local park, do the right thing and check the rules and regulations of the state or county property. Many parks open at sunrise and close at sunset but that is not always the case. Pack a cooler full of healthy, delicious fruit and sandwiches for the family to share. Is Dad more of a Sun and Surf kind of guy? Ride down to the nearest beach and soak up the sun, but don’t forget the sunscreen! Catch some waves and enjoy walking along the shore. Another great idea to spend time with dad is to take a walk through your neighborhood. Take some time to look around and examine your surroundings. Appreciate a pretty home or a fantastic yard that you may have previously overlooked.
Father’s Day for the Sports Fan:
If your Dad loves sports, then tickets to the next ball game are a wonderful treat. Knowing what to watch out for in the stadium will make the experience much more enjoyable. Locate the emergency exits and find the one closest to your seat. Emergency Exits are typically marked with illuminated signs and have bold signage on the door. Check the policies for bringing your own food and drinks. If you decide to share a beer with Dad, arrange for transportation home. Be kind, and don’t be in a rush to leave. People are often in a rush to leave which can cause an unfortunate fall or injury. Sit and talk with Dad about your favorite moments or make plans for later on. During that time, foot traffic throughout the stadium will decrease, making the stairwells and hallways less crowded. Pay attention to safety officers, parking lot attendants and the other vehicles around you! If you want to leave quickly, locate a lesser used exit before the big game.

Father’s Day for the Classic Car Enthusiast:
Many Dads enjoy viewing a huge warehouse full of classic cars, or even cruising the streets in their own vintage wheels. Going to see a car show with your “old man” will surely brighten his day! Sometimes these events can be held outdoors, so If Father’s Day falls on a sunny day, make sure everyone’s wearing sunscreen and hats to protect your family from skin damage. Look up the event’s policies and be mindful of restricted areas. Engines might be turned on, so take that into consideration when you get close to your favorite car. Do not touch anything except with the explicit permission of the owner. You do not want to be held responsible for property damage!
Father’s Day for the Music Superfan:
Taking your dad to a concert can be a big deal, and Dad will appreciate spending time at a fun event with you. If your destination is far away, be sure to tell other family members where you’re headed and what your plans are. Write them a note that says where you’re headed, what show you’re seeing, what time it starts and what time they should expect you two to arrive home.
When you enter a venue, you should be aware of where your seats are located. Make sure you know where you’re seated, and head there immediately so you can adjust to your surroundings and get ready to listen to Dad’s favorite band. Check the aisles of the venue to make certain that they are well-lit for trips to the snack bar and the restroom. These simple things will help you be able to relax and be carefree with your gift to your father.
